However, sometimes weird food combinations work. I have a friend in high school who tried Oreos (Oreoes? Oreo's? Fine ... Oreo cookies.) and squirt cheese on a dare and loved it. (I had to take her word for it because I never had the guts to try it on my own.)
However, there is one food combo I grew up with that makes perfect sense to me but causes my wife to cringe.
It's a grilled cheese sandwich:

With hot chocolate:

I dare you to try it. Tomato soup is fine, but this is the way I really love to eat grilled cheese sandwiches.
So, there you have it, Paula Abdul. Opposites really do attract.
I love french fries and chocolate shakes. I have never had Oreos and squirt cheese, or girlled cheese and hot chocolate. They sound absurd!
ReplyDeleteI have had lays chips dipped in mustard, not all that weird, but certainly uncommon.
I LOVE fries dipped in vanilla soft serve from McD's. I also love beef jerky with honey roasted peanuts and Hoffmann cheese. Kinda a weird combo but man, I crave it on a snow day. Maybe it is still memories from last year's ice storm when we didn't have power and were eating out of food storage for a week. In any case, it is GOOD.
ReplyDeleteOH! And now that I have had time to think about it, I love putting ketchup and mayonaise on my tacos or burritos and I dip Salsa Verde chips in potatoe salad (which I happen to be eating right now). YUM!
ReplyDeletei can totally see the grilled cheese and hot chocolate thing--- i love to dip toast in hot chocolate. i'll have to add a little cheese next time.
ReplyDeleteFrostie and french fries is the best
ReplyDeleteeating weird food rules.
ReplyDeletei like to use HUGE pepperoncinis as scoops in minestrone soup. i'm also a huge fan of dipping my grilled cheese in buffalo sauce, but that's probably not that weird.
